Hardest part is to attract subscribers for clubs at their YouTube channels. In this post you’ll see the comparison of numbers of followers that German clubs have managed to attract to their social network profiles.
Overall, situation in Bundesliga isn’t too surprising. The world of football isn’t any exception here. In comparison, Barclays Premier League page has been Liked more than 29 million times, Italian Serie A got almost 3 million Likes, French Ligue 1 has 1.5 million Likes, but Spanish La Liga official page has only 430K Likes.
German Bundesliga is traditionally considered as one of the TOP 5 leagues in Europe and clubs from this league attract some serious audience on the social networks. Five Bundesliga clubs (Werder Bremen, HSV, Bayer Leverkusen, Mainz 05 and Paderborn) don’t have a channel on YouTube, so no subscribers for them there. Communication and engagement with the fans is a crucial part of club’s media departments.. Bayern and Borussia have a serious gap, as Schalke 04 (250K followers on Twitter, 2.5 million Likes on Facebook, 48K subscribers on YouTube) and other teams have a far smaller auditory.
As you can see in video below, biggest auditory can be found on Facebook, where clubs have from 101K (Paderborn) to 27 million (Bayern) Likes. Bayern and Borussia Dortmund players are the most popular ones. He’s followed by his team-mates – Manuel Neuer (@Manuel_Neuer) with 2.5 million followers, Thiago Alcantara (@Thiago6) with 2.5 million followers and Mario Götze (@MarioGoetze) with 2.2 million followers. Borussia Dortmund keeps the second spot with 1.47 million followers on Twitter, 12 million Likes on Facebook and 94K subscribers on YouTube. Bayern Munich is far the most popular Bundesliga club on Twitter (1.86 million followers), Facebook (27 million Likes) and YouTube (290K subscribers).
Situation in Facebook is a bit different. First place goes to the experienced Bayern midfielder Xabi Alonso (@XabiAlonso) with 8.8 million followers. It has less followers than Barclays Premier League (7.7 million), Spanish La Liga (950K) and more than Italian Serie A (388K) and French Ligue 1 (182K).
It’s quite hard to imagine modern day life without the internet and social networks. Others attract only a relatively small number of subscribers, only Bayern has managed to get past 100K subscribers mark.
Situation is similar if we look on the most popular Bundesliga players on Twitter. Borussia Dortmund leader Marco Reus (@woodyinho) takes the fifth place in this list with 1.9 million followers.

If we compare the numbers of Twitter followers of the TOP 5 European football leagues, we can see that the German Bundesliga is placed third with 891K followers. Football clubs all around the world are trying to build their public image and raise their popularity not only with a great results on football pitch, but also through social networks.
