Baseball Hitting Drills – Tips and Drills For Using Hitting Stick Trainers by Nick Dixon

Written by  on September 11, 2016

This high speed training machine is 100% Guaranteed to raise Batting Averages and has a full year warranty.

*HitnStik is a registered trademark belong to Easton Sports. Make sure that the hitting area is safe with no one within 15 feet of the holder or the batter.

The holder changes location and height and allows the batter to take 6 swings at each location. The batter may have to take a slight inward step with the front foot to properly execute this swing.

The http://BaseballCoachingDigest.com has a great selection of BASEBALL COACHING and TRAINING ARTICLES. The batter will drive the bat through the box. MIDDLE STRIKE CONTACT – The holder will move around a couple more feet. The ball should be positioned at a location inside the batters front foot. You can learn to hit without having to chase, pick-up or retrieve a single ball. The batter should attack the inside strike earlier to keep from getting jammed.

10. Make sure that the batter is swinging in a direction that is free of persons should the batter lose the grip on the bat.

1. HIP TURNER LOCATION – The holder stands slightly behind the batter directing the ball at the batter’s bat pocket. They have different names but they all are great trainers to teach and train young players. The ball should be positioned slightly in front of the batters front foot. The batter does not move. It is welcomed in complexes and parks because it allows safe pre-game warm-up, requires little space, and does not damage fences. You should not move the ball when using these trainers. First, the product is to be used as a “still” ball trainer. This is what I call “coning out”.

3. AWAY STRIKE LOCATION – The holder will move around a couple more feet to give the batter a ball to hit that is on the outer 3rd of the plate. Make sure the ball is directed at the batter’s back foot.

2. The holder will change the location of the ball by moving.

Coaching Points:

3. All of these are handheld units. This simple rule insures that proper bat-to-ball contact is made. All of these baseball trainers basically work and perform the same. These trainers are some of the most popular baseball batting trainers used today.. INSIDE STRIKE – The holder moves toward the direction of the pitcher from the batter. This location simulates hitting a pitch over the inside 3rd of the plate. It is important to know the proper angles when using this product.

1. ^Hit2win is a registered trademark of Nedco Sports Products. Then later came other versions including the Hit2win Trainer^ and the SKLZ Target Trainer. The unit is portable and requires no setup. The ball should be at a location just inside the batters back foot. The purpose of these swings is to make the batter use the hips as the batter turns and hits the ball. The height of the ball should be raised and lowered in the strike zone to give the batter swings at both high and low strikes.

The batter takes 5 swings at 5 different ball locations. Check to make sure the batter is using proper grip, stance and stride mechanics.

9. The holder should make sure that the trainer safety strap is used to prevent the holder from losing their grip on the trainer when the batter hits the ball.

The key to proper use of any hand-held batting device is KNOWING AND USING THE CORRECT ANGLE FOR THE DRILL YOU ARE DOING! If you do not direct or point the ball at the proper angle, the batter will always make poor contact. The batter should take a step and drive the ball.

4. Positive reinforcement should be given when the batter makes good solid contact.

6. The first thing to remember is that the holder should always direct the rod and ball toward the hitter’s back foot. +SKLZ Target is a registered trademark of Pro Performance Sports.

Baseball Hitting Drills – Tips and Drills For Using Hitting Stick Trainers

 by: Nick Dixon

4. I sometimes get frustrated because I observe the product being used incorrectly.

2. The batter should keep the head still and the head should stay down with the eyes on the ball throughout the swing.

5. The first and original version was the HitnStik*. This teaches the batter to allow the ball down the middle to get inside the front foot so that maximum power can be generated during the swing. 7. Make sure the batter does not over stride.

As the inventor of the HitnStik*, Hit2win Trainer^, and SKLZ Target+ Trainer, I sometimes cringe when I see someone using the product incorrectly. Allowing the ball to pass inside the front foot allows the batter to use the front foot and leg as a anchor and leverage to generate a more powerful swing.

8. Second, the holder must stand at the proper angle to the batter and direct the ball at the correct angle to the batter. The ball hit is on the middle 3rd of the plate. Check out the Bat Action Hitting Machine baseball pitching simulator at http://BatAction.com. The ball will be positioned in a location behind the front foot. I often see coaches and parents working with players when I visit a park. The batter swings and drives the ball in a direction that would be to the opposite field. If the angle is wrong, the end of the bat will hit behind the ball and the bat will never actually touch the ball. Remember to direct the ball toward the belly button or back foot of the batter.

There are many versions of the “ball-on-a-rod” trainer. Every player on the team can take 30 warm-up swings each in less than 10 minutes.

Former Giants pitcher Kasahara admits to betting: report | Reuters

Written by  on September 10, 2016

Former Yomiuri Giants pitcher Shoki Kasahara has admitted to his involvement in illegal gambling at a hearing held at the Tokyo District Court on Monday, Kyodo news agency reported.

The 25-year-old was suspended by Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB), the country’s professional baseball governing body, in November for illegally betting on games, which included Major League Baseball and Japanese high school games.

(Reporting by Nivedita Shankar in Bengaluru; Editing by Amlan Chakraborty)

($1 = 101.3600 yen)

The NPB which prohibits professional players from betting on games, handed a one-year ban on another Giants pitcher Kyosuke Takagi for illegal betting in March.

Kasahara is said to have aided a former restaurant operator’s betting scheme by collecting money from two other former Giants players, and gambled a total of 1.2 million yen ($11,838.99) himself between September 2014 and August 2015, the report said.

College football players have visible brain changes | Reuters

Written by  on September 10, 2016

“None of these players were feeling bad but their brain structure isn’t normal.”

Bellgowan is also on the faculty at the University of Tulsa, where, he said, “Participation of the athletic department was essential to this work.”

The participants had magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of their brains and researchers used the images to measure the volume of certain brain regions. “Maybe this is just the precursor of it.”. There has been growing concern over whether the connection between contact sports – like football – and CTE, which is a brain disease known to affect some athletes who experience repeated hits to the head, may extend to younger players.

“Maybe there is something going on early on,” he said. The athletes also took a computerized test to assess their cognitive abilities.

Bazarian was not involved with the new research, but has studied the brains of young athletes at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, New York.

“People try to understand why some NFL players have what looks like Alzheimer’s in their forties,” Dr. Jeffrey Bazarian said. Those who had been diagnosed with concussions also had smaller hippocampuses than the players without past concussions.

For now, Bellgowan suggested that parents and coaches take a conservative approach when dealing with student athletes by taking them to specialists when they walk off the field with a headache.

“We keep hearing about retired football players having diseases that relate back to smaller hippocampuses,” Bellgowan said. “How did they get there? I think this study points out the early stages of that.”

“Boys hear about the long-term effect on guys when they’re retired from football, but this shows that 20-year-olds might be having some kind of effect,” said Patrick Bellgowan, the study’s senior author from the Laureate Institute for Brain Research in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

SOURCE: bit.ly/WddS8K JAMA, online May 13, 2014.

The researchers write in JAMA that they didn’t find any differences in behavior between players and non-players, but Bellgowan told Reuters Health that a smaller hippocampus is linked to depression, schizophrenia and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).

“The conservative approach is what I’m hoping to get out there,” he said.

The longer the young men had played football, the smaller their hippocampuses were and the slower their reaction time on one of the tests.

The symptoms of CTE, which tend to set in years after the last traumas, often include memory loss, aggression and dementia.

Between June 2011 and August 2013 the researchers recruited 25 college football players who had been diagnosed with a concussion, 25 players without a history of diagnosed concussion and 25 similar young men who had never played.

Players who had been diagnosed with concussions and those who had been playing for years had smaller hippocampuses – a brain structure critical to memory – compared to those who never played football or played for fewer years, researchers found.

Both Bellgowan and Bazarian said it will take longer studies to find out whether a smaller hippocampus may cause problems for these athletes in the future.

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – The brains of college football players may already display the effects of years of taking hits, according to a new brain imaging study.

The researchers found that college athletes had hippocampuses between 17 percent and 26 percent smaller than non-athletes

Don’t Be a Square: 10 Tips for Betting on Football

Written by  on September 9, 2016

If North Texas is his best bet on a Saturday then that is his bet. Slim underdogs regularly win outright.

Certainly not back into the pockets of the average bettor. If you like an underdog, it is best to get your bet in as late as possible, where there is heavy action from squares on favorites.

“A square is the average, unsophisticated gambler whose decision making is based on hunches, media manipulation, or spurious systems that cannot overcome the bookmaker’s inherent mathematical advantage,” Konik explains. The NFL, for example, will have very similar numbers at most of the betting shops you visit. Consider Underdogs – “In the long-run, it’s easier to win betting on the underdog,” Konik says.

3. Avoid Exotic Bets – “For very skilled handicappers, with a proven track record, there can, at least in theory, be value in betting parlays,” says Gordon on the type of bet that combines two or more individual wagers. “If you listen to their advice, you are sure to lose.

However, Konik adds that there are some bettors who actually know how to beat the bookies.

8. The payout is just the same as far as he is concerned.

So, is it possible for the average square to become a little sharper in making football bets this season? According to professionals like Vacarro, Konik and Gordon, amateur bettors have the best chance to win if they demonstrate a little patience and follow the 10 basic tips below.

Even Hollywood is not immune – think Two for the Money with Al Pacino and Matthew McConaughey.

“Most people with an understanding of football gambling bet between 3 percent and 5 percent of their bankroll, increasing when they win and reducing when they lose,” Vaccaro says. “In trying to bamboozle potential customers, many services make claims about having scouts all over the country that give them inside information and promise 70 or even 80 percent winners, as if the bookmakers were the biggest suckers in the world. “Over the course of several seasons, the percentage of bettors who turn a profit is minuscule.”

1. Thanks to the juice, the only one who profits in this scenario is the bookmaker. If you are going to go with a favorite, it is best to place your bet early in the week when the sharps are laying heavy money on the points. Focus on Conferences – “The best way to win money betting football is to develop a niche and follow it closely,” Moseman advises. “He is not jaded by teams and does not bet with his heart. “Common wisdom says that over the course of a long football season the average man or woman will pick approximately 50 percent winners. Chasing losses is the fastest way to the poor house.”

“A square or recreational player might have a vague plan, but after two Corona’s he will definitely run to the window and make a hasty decision on the USC-Notre Dame game because he wants to be involved in the party atmosphere,” Vaccaro says. “Because alcohol clouds your judgment and usually helps you to make rash decisions you usually wouldn’t otherwise make.

7. “As for me, the best bet in football is betting the point spread or over/under totals on individual games. If you want advice about sports betting, find someone who has a successful track record. “Squares usually bet later in the week and they tend to pick the favorites. “Teams play inspired ball at home. Bet at the Right Time – “The sharp bettors tend to bet underdogs, and they tend to bet them early,” Moseman says. Big underdogs often find ways to cover the spread and they rarely give up toward the end of a game in front of the home crowd.”

Another difference between squares and sharps is how they approach betting on game day.

“The bookies fear and despise a tiny coterie of professional bettors known as ‘the sharps,’” Konik says. Also, being “in action” can make a dull late-afternoon game (Buffalo vs. Giving 11 to 10 odds is almost always the cheapest price you can give.”

So, how much should you bet a game?

Moseman agrees and especially likes home underdogs. Avoid Chasing Bets – “Don’t do it! There is no worse way to mismanage your bankroll than to chase your bets after a losing day,” cautions Moseman on the dangerous practice of trying to immediately win back your losses. In fact, sports bettors must pick 52.4 percent winners just to break even.”

Betting on football games; whether it’s through a local bookie, an offshore Internet site or a Nevada casino (still the only legal place in America to make football bets), most of us have done it or know of someone who has. These books change their numbers according to the betting patterns of their customers, so it is not entirely uncommon to find two or three point differences in the lines.”.

And where does all that money go?

“The standard bet requires gamblers to lay $11 for every $10 they want to win with the extra $1 or 10 percent known as the juice,” Konik says. “In the NFL, a game will often be totally turned around by one or two plays, or even a single penalty. “When you’re in a good rhythm and winning, you want to increase your bets.

5. “The sharps are usually members of a betting syndicate privy to the most up-to-date information on injuries, weather, game plans, and, most important, the real power of the teams involved. So underdogs tend to be slightly undervalued – except by the sharps.”

And remember, in the immortal words of “Fast” Eddie Felson, “Money won is twice as sweet as money earned.”

“The talking heads on TV know nothing about sports betting,” says Sevransky. Money Management – “This is without a doubt the most important aspect of betting on sports and possibly the most neglected,” says Morey “Doc” Moseman, a professional gambler and sports consultant with DocSports.com for nearly 40 years. He loses year after year, according to Dan Gordon, a top football handicapper and author of How to Beat the Sports Books (Cardoza Publishing 2005). Shop For Numbers – “Another important aspect of betting on football is shopping for the best number,” Moseman explains.

But that doesn’t mean you have to bet like a “square” and throw away your hard-earned money.

While these tips don’t guarantee you’re going to win, hopefully they can make you a little less square and a little more sharp in your picks this season. The only locks that exist are those that need keys to open them.”

“A sharp or smart has a plan of what he wants to do,” says Vaccaro, the director of sports operations and public relations at Lucky’s Race and Sports Book in Las Vegas. They use powerful computers that can process millions of bits of data and produce a more accurate point-spread line than the bookmakers.”

But even though the math says it’s virtually impossible to win on a consistent basis, Americans continue to bet on football. Oakland comes to mind) seem like the Super Bowl. Locks Don’t Exist – “Anyone who has watched sports for about a month realizes that the difference between winning and losing, especially against the spread, can be infinitesimally small,” Gordon says. “For example, if you have a $1,000 bankroll for the season, you should generally bet no more than $50 a game.”

“The biggest mistake that amateur bettors make is they increase their bets when they are losing,” Sevransky says. On college you will be able to find different lines at different sports books.

“In an average season, fewer than one bettor in twelve turns a profit,” Gordon says. There is a wealth of information on the Internet; it is just up to you to find it and research it daily.”

Also, it’s probably a good idea to disregard advice from the myriad of ex-players and football experts you see on television each week.

9. Otherwise, you’re better off doing your own research.”

Ted Sevransky, a well-known Las Vegas gambler and sports consultant with Sportsmemo.com, agrees.

Although exact figures are impossible to calculate, according to Jimmy Vaccaro, widely considered to be Las Vegas’ most influential bookmaker, Americans probably wager more than $50 billion a year on NFL and college football combined. “Most people prefer to bet on the ‘better’ team, the one that will probably win the game. He is not taken in by being involved in USC-Notre Dame just because it is the biggest watched game of the day. “Thus, the bookies love and cherish the squares.”

Michael Konik, a sports writer and best-selling author of The Smart Money (Simon & Schuster 2006), explains why it is so hard for the recreational gambler to win at betting on football. There are almost an infinite number of scenarios that can happen in a single football game.

10. To be a successful sports bettor you need to operate with a clear mind.”

Newspapers and popular sports sites routinely publish the lines or point spreads for games, and football insiders offer their picks to viewers each week on ESPN and other cable networks.

4. And why not? We have unconditional love for the sport and betting $50 or $100 on a game adds an extra rush of adrenaline. The only touts bettors should consider are the ones who talk about the long haul and realistic winning percentages, which are in the upper 50 percent to lower 60 percent range.”

6. Not all games work according to this formula, but it is usually a good rule of thumb.”

So, how much are we gambling each football season?

“There is probably no better bet in sports than playing an underdog at home,” Moseman says. “If you become an expert on a smaller conference like the WAC, you have a good chance to beat the house because sports book operators do not have the time or resources to follow this conference the way you can. Research Football Services – “Most sports services realize that most people who sign up with them are insecure,” Gordon warns. Drinking and Gambling Don’t Mix – “There is a reason the casinos in Las Vegas supply you with free drinks while you are gambling,” Moseman says. “There will be more discrepancy in the numbers at different sports books. “The key to proper money management is to be sure not to bet more than you can afford to lose.”

2. But, when you’re struggling, that’s when you want to reduce your bet size until you get out of your slump

2012 Olympic synchronized swimming tickets oversold

Written by  on September 9, 2016

The Paralympics go from August 29 to September 9.

It was not immediately clear whether the committee discovered oversold tickets in other events.

The committee said it discovered the error while comparing final seating configurations at Olympic and Paralympic venues against the millions of ticket orders placed. The London Olympics are scheduled to take place July 27 through August 12. They found that four synchronized swimming sessions were oversold.

The newly-built Aquatics Center, with its giant wave-like roof, is located at the Olympic Park and will play host to synchronized swimming and other water sports, including swimming and diving. The majority of spectators for those events will be seated in two temporary wings that will be taken down after the Games, the committee said.

London 2012 Olympic organizers said Wednesday they oversold thousands of tickets for the synchronized swimming events at this summer’s Games.

Organizers last month contacted around 3,000 customers who had applied for tickets to the four sessions and told them of the error.

“We are exchanging their synchronized swimming tickets for tickets in other sports that they originally applied for,” a London 2012 spokesman said in a statement.
